20 July 1944Rastenburg in mid-July was not a pleasant place.  No wind stirred the tension filled air of Hitler’s East Prussia headquarters.  The shade cast by the ancient trees did nothing to banish the oppressive heat at high noon.  In fact, the massive leaves seemed to go so far as to trap the heat, to thrust it back in the greenish light that filtered through the branches upon the men that worked here at Wolfsschanze, the Wolf’s Lair.  Claus was grateful of it, though.  It gave him an excuse to sweat.   
And sweating he was as he tried to bend the copper tubing of the acid fuze.&nbs 20 July 1944

A Good Night's SleepBlossom tossed and turned in her bed, the sheets and blankets tangling around her body as she struggled to sleep.  It had been four hours since she had gone to bed, and she was drifting on the edge of unconsciousness, but she simply could not cross over.  Despite the covers heaped on top of her, she was cold.  Her normally comfortable mattress was an unyielding stone.  But most of all, Blossom felt alone.  She longed for a comforting touch, a smile, a kiss.  The heartache twisted in her stomach and tightened her throat.  In her depressed exhaustion, she was on the verge of A Good Night's Sleep

The Blind FiddlerHe had no eyes. Well, that was ridiculous. Of course he had eyes. He could probably see just fine from behind the thick bangs hanging over his face. He certainly seemed to make eye contact with Sara when he turned towards her as he adjusted the instrument he held. Sara stopped, mesmerized. He wore a traditional Chinese shirt, blue cotton, but dark jeans and with a dark wind breaker tied around his waist. But Sara's eyes were fixed on his face. Was he blind beneath his hair? Scarred or disfigured? Sara almost trembled as she considered a fourth possibility. Was he gorgeous with beautiful, almond shaped chocolate-brown eyes that she could just The Blind Fiddler

God DammitThe lunch line was boring and slow.  That was the only way to describe it.  Tapping her heel to the music in her head, Charli crossed her arms and sang softly to herself to pass the time.  "I wanna go where the mountains are high enough to echo my song.  I wanna go where the rivers run deep enough to drown my shame.  I wanna go where the stars shine bright enough to show me the way.  I wanna go where the wind calls my name.  Wind is calling 'India, India, India'."  She nearly jumped out of her skin, though, when the boy standing very still in front of her turned his head to God Dammit
